Surprises everywhere

As i went for my early morning coffee at the Starbucks of Miami International, en route to Singapore, I saw some fliers displayed next to the sugar/cream table. I was intrigued about what they were trying to communicate, so I picked them up. Sipping my coffee I was thrilled to read the first flyer about their corporate socially-responsible initiatives. I knew Starbucks was active and one of the early adopters of CSR perspectives, but this went far beyond my expectations. In their flyer they give a short paragraph about each of the areas in which they are taking steps - that have an impact on communities and on environment, on the present and on the future. I won't say more, get one and read it. I felt a bit better paying the expensive price of their coffee. True - they are not perfect and they have ways to go. As we all have, and some have more ways to go than others. What I loved was the blink of hope that it gave me, seeing that somewhere, some people do care.

It's rolling

I thought that once a paper is thrown into the water, the ripple waves will begin. And it worked. I wrote a few lines, and there comes Martha and sends me this interesting thought: that according to Covey (yes, more of him...), there are four areas of needs, which he displays in a circle. The first one is about learning: it's the mind, growth and development The next one is about living: it relates to the body and to survival The third one is about loving: connected to the heart, to relationships And the fourth one is in the center: he calls it leaving a legacy. It's about meaning, contribution.

A good way to start

Sunrise is the image, as it brings with it a beginning. An opportunity, that will be up to us to shape.
I received in the mail a brochure that was interesting. It had a few lines on the front:
I was not sure if it was a workshop for financial planning or strategic thinking. It ended up being for time management, but that really doesn't matter. What struck me were those lines. They were talking to me.
As I opened I found Covey's matrix of what is important and urgent, a pyramide to help you plan the day, the week, set goals and identify values. Good basic, forgotten stuff.
I will stay with the few first lines.
It's Your Life. It's Worth Planning. Focus. Achieving your highest priorities.
