When a person is more than a person

I am not the only one who cannot stop the tears of joy, witnessing this event that has reached across borders, races, age, gender, religions. I had a hard time switching off the TV this morning, I wanted to see more and more, the echoes and impact of the great news of last night. I didn't want to miss any report of what people in Hong Kong, France, London, Sydney, China, Iran, Beirut, Kenya, were feeling and saying. I felt connected to their joy, their tears, their screaming as much as to all the emotions expressed across the 50 states of the US.
I received an email from an organization I didn't know, and I don't recall receiving an email from there before. It's called Union of Concerned Scientists ( http://www.ucsusa.org/) and the message was just a statement, no petition. It was an announcement of what their areas of concern are, and how they want to work with the new administration to put brakes on global warming, to work towards a world free of nuclear weapons and to restore scientific integrity. It made me think that this is just the first sign. Obama is not just a winning candidate for a presidency in a country. He represents hope, he invites to believe in ourselves through his "Yes we can" mantra, he is offering himself as an example of standing up for our values and pursuing our dreams. He is also a unifier - looking to create bridges to those that think differently.
By watching the world's reaction, I realized that sometimes a person is more than a person. Sometimes a person is the spark that lights up something big, that was ready to happen. I have been seeing, reading and witnessing the growing movement that is shifting the world as we knew it. As Oprah said last night, there is a new expansion of awareness going on in the world.
Sometimes a person is the spark that lights up something big. But wait a moment, aren't we all potential spark producers?
